I think games/toys like Townscaper are the things that lead to innovation and evolution in the industry.Ī Nintendo Switch review copy of Townscaper was provided by Raw Fury for this review. I’m excited to see more experimental gaming experiences like this. Until then, if you’re looking for a nice way to relax, or a tool to plan out a sprawling city for something like a tabletop campaign or a written story, this will at least get your creative juices flowing. It has a lot of potential to be more than it is, so hopefully, we’ll see the creators build on this formula in the future. Wrapping everything up in a simple bow, Townscaper is a gorgeously detailed building simulator and creative tool. The controls are smooth, the premise is simple, and it is a fun tool to unwind or just let your creativity flow. Exciting news Friendtowners Friends vs Friends will be featured in IGNs Summer of Gaming showcase to be held on July 12th at 8:57AM PT / 11:57PM EST / 5:57 CEST. Other than that, there isn’t much to say about Townscaper really. I’m more suggesting that giving people other tools and other things to enhance the creative experience would be a great idea. I’m not suggesting that the developers add actual gameplay in terms of quests etc. However, it is easy to see that this could be the foundation for a very involved, very creative building tool. It is a very minimalistic toy, and that is part of its charm. The game is a sandbox-style city builder where the player can build an entire city block by block. It’d be nice to be able to make parks, leisure areas, and other things that would make the town feel livelier. Townscaper is an indie casual Wide-Open Sandbox city-building game developed by Oskar Stlberg and published by Raw Fury and released on August 26, 2021. I wish there was a bit more variety in the pieces you could put down. The game has already been on PC since June, albeit in Early Access. Other than the controls I mentioned, you can save your creations, change the position of the sun, make it nighttime entirely, or toggle the grid on and off. Raw Fury announced this week that theyve teamed up with developer Oskar Stålberg to release Townscraper this Summer. It is all about your imagination and your creative drive. There are no constraints, no-fail states, and no requirements. There was something immensely satisfying about being able to make a rainbow city. It feels like playing Islanders or Dorfromantik (which I’ll review at some point) without the points involved. It is really cool to see the in-game engine turn what starts out as small pathways and houses, into archways and sprawling environments. The uses of Townscaper extend past its original intent as a relaxing, meditative experience. This means you can build tall multi-level cities or do whatever your creativity inspires you to do. Townscaper‘s accessible gameplay can be easily enjoyed by all with its simple controls, no time limit pressure, and an underlying algorithm that allows players to intuitively create their dream ocean-side town with only a few button presses. Combining buildings will allow you, beautiful builders, to create quiet hamlets or sweeping cathedrals, lighthouses, or soaring sky-cities. By using a grid situated over a serene sea, each click seamlessly creates structures both large and small. Townscaper is more like a toy than a game. When the pandemic hit, Oskar Stålberg (who worked on another Raw Fury title, Bad North) hit the keys and brought to life one of the most charming titles (we’re definitely #notbiased) to come out this year - Townscaper!
